A thick, spiced, high-protein chocolate drink inspired by traditional Dominican recipes.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups ultra-filtered high-protein milk
  • 2 scoops unflavored collagen peptides optional
  • 3 tablespoon unsweetened dark Dominican cocoa powder
  • 2 sticks of cinnamon
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 1 squeeze of green lemon The traditional secret to brightening deep chocolate
  • Pinch of grated ginger to make it spicy
  • Pinch of sea salt to bring out the cacao
  • 1-2 tablespoon Monk fruit sweetener to taste

Instructions

  • Infuse the Milk: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine the high-protein milk, cinnamon sticks, ginger and cloves. Heat until small bubbles form around the edges.
  • Whisk the Cocoa: Sift in the cocoa powder and monk fruit. Whisk vigorously to ensure no clumps remain.
  • The Tradition: Add the squeeze of green lemon and the pinch of sea salt.
  • Thicken: Continue to simmer on low for 5–7 minutes. Because we are using high-protein milk, it will naturally thicken more than standard milk without needing cornstarch.
  • The Protein Finish: Remove from heat. If using collagen, whisk it in now until fully dissolved.
  • Strain and Serve: Pour through a fine-mesh strainer into your favorite mug to remove the whole spices.
